GREEN, Ohio,  (PRNewswire-USNewswire/WorldTourismNews.eu) -- Whoopee! We did it! With your help, 2010 was the busiest year ever at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). A total of 1,563,031 customers traveled to and from CAK in 2010, beating the old record set in 2008 by more than 93,800 people – a six percent increase. For the full year, total passengers were up by more than eight percent – more than 118,000 – compared to 2009. Additionally, the month of December, 2010 was also our best with more than 126,000 total passengers flying CAK, a nine percent increase compared to the same month last year. The icing on the CAKe? We broke passenger records nine out of 12 months in 2010. For the decade, passenger figures have doubled.

"We are absolutely blown away by the customer support we've experienced not only in 2010 but for the past decade," said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. "We couldn't have broken these records without all the new and long-standing customers that have said 'yes' to our low fares and exceptional customer experience. We are also incredibly thankful to our airline partners – AirTran, Frontier, US Airways, Delta and United – because they provide outstanding service to our community; connecting us to the globe. We can't help but feel enthusiastic about the future."

Nearly every carrier saw an increase in total passengers for the year, including AirTran Airways growing nine percent with 734,700 passengers; US Airways Express carrying 221,600, an 18 percent increase; United Express with 84,900 passengers, a six percent increase; and Frontier Airlines grew two percent with 156,300 passengers. New flights to Milwaukee aboard SkyWest Airlines in partnership with AirTran Airways added another 47,800 passengers. And although Delta Connection passengers were down compared to 2009, the carrier still carried a robust 309,700 passengers for the year.
