Germany (World Tourism News) - For all those who are planning a trip to Berlin and who are interesting in the history of the former GDR: the new information platform East-Berlin.co.uk is going online.

After much painstaking research on East Berlin and a whole lot of writing, our new information portal East-Berlin.co.uk is now online. On the websites of East-Berlin.co.uk you’ll find a lot of helpful information concerned with the history of former East Berlin and the GDR, plus sightseeing tips for touristic discoveries throughout East Berlin and of course many, many pictures!

There are - and were - many places, buildings and streets in East Berlin which had great importance in the past and which are popular points for visitors and residents likewise – by day and by night. For example the Brandenburg Gate: This stood directly on the former border to West Berlin and could not be passed. Today people are allowed to promenade through the Brandenburg Gate between the Tiergarten (West Berlin) and the most famous street in East Berlin, called “Unter den Linden”. The course of the former Berlin Wall near the Brandenburg Gate is labelled on the ground. Parts of the Berlin Wall can be visited in the Bernauer Straße and the Mühlenstraße (East-Side-Gallery).

Further points of attraction in East Berlin are the Berlin Alexanderplatz (Alexander Place) with its “Fernsehturm” (TV tower) and the “Weltzeituhr” (World Time Watch) and the place where the former “Palast der Republik” (Palace of the Republic) was standing. This building was also called “Erich’s Lighthouse” and “Light Palace” because of its many lights. Erich was the first name of the most famous president of the former German Democratic Republik, Erich Honnecker. You’ll find a wealth of information as well as comprehensive pictures on East-Berlin.co.uk about all of these places, the history of East Berlin and much, much more!

Other free offers from East-Berlin.co.uk are a download area with texts and a map of East Berlin and a link area, where you can find other interesting links regarding East Germany and the GDR. East-Berlin.co.uk is for all those interested in the history of East Berlin, in the Berlin Wall, in the sights and in all the day- and nightlife activities in Berlin.
