Several major airlines suspend Cairo flights

CAIRO, Egypt – International airlines scrambled to readjust their schedules to accommodate a government-imposed curfew on flights from Cairo, and national flag carrier EgyptAir suspended its service from the capital, as mounting street protests presented President Mubarak's government with its most serious challenge ever.

 

The United States issued a travel warning, advising its citizens against any nonessential travel to Egypt and cautioning Americans already in the country to stay put. UK Foreign Office issued a similar advisory to British citizens. The Associated Press reports that the warnings came hours after Friday's anti-government protests spiraled out of control, forcing the deployment of the military which Egyptian state television said would work alongside the police to enforce the curfew and restore order.
