	Air traffic demand continues to grow but at a slower pace, according to the International Air Transport Association’s latest figures for August. Passenger demand during the month was up 4.5 percent over the previous August, representing a significant slowing from the 6 percent increase recorded in July.

         <description><![CDATA[Lufthansa became the first airline to use biofuels on regular  commercial flights on Friday in a six month trial that it estimates will  reduce CO2 emissions by up to 1,500 tonnes during the period.

European airlines are pressing ahead with biofuel plans in order to  cut use of regular jet fuel. A pact signed last month with biofuel  producers and the EU Commission aims to produce 2 million tonnes of  biofuel for aviation by 2020.

US Airways on Tuesday posted a narrower quarterly loss than analysts had expected as fuel costs rose.
&#160;
The airline said its loss, excluding special items, was USD$110  million. This compares with a loss of USD$89 million in the year-earlier  period.Total revenues were USD$3 billion, up 11.7 percent. Operating expenses were USD$3 billion, up 12.8 percent, due primarily to a USD$272 million jump in fuel costs.
