Business travel likely to fall in wake of Mumbai attacks

Business travel to India is likely to experience a temporary fall following the terrorist attacks on two luxury hotels.

Hogg Robinson Group commercial director Christopher Fry said clients due to travel to Mumbai had expressed concerns.

"We are getting lots of calls asking for advice. Some are delaying travel, partly because there is very little choice of places to say," he said.

"People will be more aware that they need to make sure we have all their details so that we can track them if things go wrong."

The Association of Travel Executives (ACTE) executive director Susan Gurley said there would be a short-term drop but long term the destination should recover.

"Companies will be looking at the overall response by Indian security forces and the potential of sectarian backlash before making any long-term decisions," she said.

Corporate clients will also be reviewing their security plans, such as evacuation procedures and safe houses, she added.
