Expedia Drops Travel Booking Fees for Phone Orders
Expedia.com said it has eliminated all phone-based booking fees. The online travel agency will not charge phone booking fees for any flight, car rental, hotel or cruise reservation booked by phone.
The change to Expedia’s service policy is immediate. In May 2009 the company dropped online air booking fees and change fees, and canceled fees on all hotel and car rental reservations.
Cruise change and cancel fees also were eliminated in May 2009 and cruise booking fees were eliminated in October 2009. In its press release announcing the change, Expedia noted that it is now the only major online travel agency to offer fee-free telephone booking for air travel. It added that many airlines charge up to $25 to book by phone.
