Madagascar on the way to tourism recovery

Tourism sources in Madagascar are upbeat about the recovery of their sector and the return of tourist visitors to the country, following the landmark deal reached by negotiators of the two deeply-divided political camps in Madagascar.

 

This took place in Maputo, Mozambique, under the chairmanship of former President Joaquim Chissano, who guided the two sides to an agreement on an election timetable spanning the next 15 months, while granting amnesty of all charges and against all prior (politically-inspired) convictions for ousted President Marc Ravalomanana, who has since his election defeat have been living in exile in South Africa, along with his own predecessor Ratsiraka, who had been given political asylum in France.

 

In fact, Ravalomanana, Ratsiraka, and another former president, Albert Zafy, took part in the negotiations.
