Online travel industry in decline

New statistics have shown that the UK’s online travel industry is in decline, as travel companies slide down Hitwise UK’s Top 100 e-retailers list.

 

Experian-owned website research company Hitwise compiled the annual list using the number of visits each website received. Of the results, Thomson Holidays was the only travel company to see an increase, while British Airways saw the most dramatic decrease in traffic numbers, falling from 19 to 43 in the Top 100.

 

Expedia was ranked 8th in the list, with easyJet, Ryanair and Thomson Holidays ranking 11th, 12th and 13th.  However, all travel companies, aside from Thomson, had lost ground in the listings since 2006.
