Spain to Support Kenya Tourism

04/02/2009 08:34

Kenya and Spain have agreed on immediate areas of action to help enhance the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries to cooperate in tourism promotion, information sharing and technical assistance on training.

They include launching a website in Spanish, conducting an e-learning program for Spanish Tour Operators, and cross-marketing of tourism with other Kenyan products such as tea and coffee.

This was agreed upon by tourism Minister Najib Balala and his Spanish counterpart Mr. Juan Mesquida in Madrid where a Kenyan tourism promotion team attended FITUR 2009.

Kenya took part in FITUR for the first time in line with the undertakings of the MOU which was signed in late November 2008 in Nairobi when the Spanish minister visited Kenya and was also the chief guest during the Lamu Cultural Festival.

This year, FITUR attracted more than 13,000 exhibiting companies from 170 countries and regions, thus allowing the participating teams to establish the biggest and most useful network of business and institutional contacts.
