Tourism push for Christmas Island as Virgin Blue lands first flights

AS asylum seekers are flown from Christmas Island to the mainland, tourists will begin flying in.
Virgin Blue's first flight to Christmas Island will land on Thursday after the Government said last year it would underwrite three flights a week there and two flights a week to Cocos Islands.
The first cruise ship visited the island in December and locals are determined for it to become a world-class tourism destination - not just a detention centre.
