U.S. Virgin Islands Pushes Sizzlin’ Sampler Promotion

09/06/2009 13:35

The U.S. Virgin Islands is offering a Sizzlin’ Sampler promotion now that the final phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, which will require all travelers returning to the U.S. from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean to have a passport as of June 1, is underway.

The Sizzlin’ Sampler is available for bookings through Oct. 15, for travel through Oct. 31. The package includes a $300 airfare credit; complimentary fourth night at participating hotels, $50 coupon for attractions, $50 dining coupon and a coupon booklet valued at over $500.

The final phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative went into effect on June 1, which means that all U.S. citizens must have passports in order to return home from neighboring countries like Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands.

The U.S. Virgin Islands remains a passport-free zone. As a U.S. territory, the USVI is the only English-speaking destination that does not require a passport for U.S. citizens upon re-entering the mainland. Travelers leaving St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John need only have a birth certificate with raised seal and a valid ID like a driver’s license or state identification card.
