Votes flood in for the Globe Travel Awards 2009

10/01/2009 15:52

This year's Globe Travel Awards will set new standards in the industry, having attracted a record number of votes.

Travel Weekly and TWgroup publishing director Simon Ferguson said more than 52,000 votes have been cast by travel agents eager to name their favourite suppliers in 40 different categories for the awards on January 27.

Meanwhile, the eight Consumer Awards, voted for by readers of Associated Newspapers, have seen a 69% increase in online votes as the public name the most outstanding companies in their fields.

Ferguson said: "The support the travel industry gives to the Globes is phenomenal. Being recognised by the industry as the best in your field is a tremendous accolade and one that companies are exceptionally proud to be awarded.

"Of course, it comes as no surprise to see a record number of votes have been cast by the trade and consumers as the Globes have long been recognised as the single most important awards ceremony in the travel industry.

"It also means that those who are lucky enough to win a Globe will know they truly are the best in what is always a supremely strong field."

Ferguson said those attending the event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London will also be treated to a top media presenter as well as some special surprise entertainment.

He added: "Last year soul legend Jocelyn Brown proved to be a massive hit with everyone attending. I can assure you all that the entertainment we have planned for this year will be even better."
